Each year throughout Australia termites cause millions of dollars worth of damage to residential structures, this damage is very rarely covered by household insurance.

This damage however can be minimised through the organisation of an annual termite inspection and the possible installation of a termite protection system/zone.

Visual Termite Inspections

It is recommended that every house in Australia should have a ‘Visual Termite Inspection in accordance with AS 3660.2-2000’ at least on an annual basis, high risk areas however may require more frequent inspections. It is also essential to have an inspection even if you have a termite protection system as it may become compromised or void your warranty. Regular Visual Inspections do not stop termite attacks from occurring, but they do limit the amount of damage that may develop by detecting termite problems early.

A Visual Termite Inspection includes three main parts:

  • A brief description of the building and where was/was not inspected
  • Where signs of any termites, workings, damage or previous treatments are located
  • Possible environmental conditions that are conducive to termite activity/attack

Equipment that may be used during a Visual Termite Inspection include:Termatrac T3i Termite Detection Inspection

  • Sounding and Listening equipment
  • Moisture Meter
  • Borescope (optional)
  • Termatrac T3i (optional)
  • Torch
  • Screwdriver
  • Ladder
